When are visiting hours?
Visitation is on Fridays, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Who can visit, and what can visitors bring?
Visits are scheduled through the patient's counselor. Every visitor must be approved and have a valid Release of Information authorization on file, and patients may also coordinate their approved visitors with their counselor.
Visitors may bring only a valid photo ID and items intended for patient drop-off into the facility. Cell phones, bags, purses and other personal items must remain in your vehicle during visitation.
Visitors sign in, agree to protect other patients' privacy and wear a visitor badge. Bags and items may be checked.
How is family involved in treatment?
Family programming runs every week for family members and other support people. A family session with your clinician can be arranged on request, in person or virtually. Family can join programming once you've signed a release of information.
Where do visitors park?
Visitors may park directly in front of the building. Additional parking is available along the fence line near the apartments. The building is at 8311 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40219.
Where do you park and check in when you arrive for treatment?
Park and leave your vehicle at Cedar Grove Recovery, 4112 Fern Valley Rd, Louisville, KY 40219. That is where you complete the intake process. Questions about your first day? Admissions answers 24/7.
How do I pick up a patient's belongings?
Personal belongings may be picked up at the facility's front entrance at any time. Pickup Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. is preferred. Upon arrival, ring the doorbell, and a staff member will assist you.

What we treat
Painted Grove Recovery treats substance use disorders — alcohol, opioids and opiates including heroin, fentanyl and prescription painkillers, stimulants including cocaine, methamphetamine and Adderall, benzodiazepines, and marijuana. We also treat co-occurring mental health conditions when they accompany a substance use disorder.

We do not offer partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient or standalone outpatient care, and we do not provide psychiatric services on site or chronic pain management. Where medication for a mental health condition is part of your care, we coordinate with your outside prescriber.
How long treatment lasts
Length of stay is determined by medical necessity. It varies by person, by substance and by what your plan authorises — which is why nobody here quotes a number.
What to expect day to day
What should you bring for residential treatment?
We want you to feel safe, comfortable, and able to focus on healing. Ask admissions what to bring for your stay — they will go through it with you on the call.
Some items are not permitted for safety and therapeutic reasons — ask admissions what applies to your stay. Need help packing? Call our team for a full checklist and personal guidance.
Bring comfortable clothing (shirts, pants and shoes are worn at all times) and sealed snacks if you like. Laundry detergent is provided.
These items aren't allowed:
- anything containing alcohol, such as perfume, cologne and some lotions
- aerosols
- razors, nail clippers and other sharp items
- nail polish and mirrors
- hair dryers and flat irons
- candles
- energy drinks and pre-workout
- glass items
- refillable vapes
- anything not in its sealed original packaging
Clothing with drug, alcohol, gang or explicit themes isn't allowed. If you're missing something, that's not a reason to stay away — tell admissions and they'll help you sort it out.
Can I bring my phone?
Yes. Phones, laptops, tablets and other devices with cameras are stored securely during your stay to protect everyone's privacy. Calls with people you've authorized are scheduled around treatment activities.
Can family send mail or drop things off?
Yes. Family and friends can send mail and packages or drop items off. You open your own mail and packages, with staff present to check for anything that isn't allowed.
Can I bring my own medications?
Yes. Bring them in the original, labeled packaging. At admission the attending provider reviews everything you bring, including vitamins, supplements and over-the-counter products, and decides what continues during your stay.
Can I smoke or vape?
Yes, at set times in designated areas, with staff supervision. Your nicotine products are stored securely between those times, and lighters stay with staff. Refillable vapes and vape juice aren't allowed.
Will you tell callers I'm here?
No. Staff won't confirm that anyone is a patient without that person's written authorization.
Can my family get updates?
Only with your written consent naming who can receive information and for what purpose. A general consent doesn't cover family; you sign a specific consent for each person.
Can you meet dietary needs?
Yes. A registered dietitian approves the menus. Gluten-free, diabetic, lactose-free and vegetarian options are available, and you can ask for an alternative at every meal. Cultural and religious needs are accommodated.
Coverage
Painted Grove Recovery is in network with Kentucky Medicaid and with the plans listed on our paying-for-treatment page. Being in network is a contract between the facility and the payer; it is not a coverage decision. What your plan covers depends on your plan, your plan year and a medical-necessity determination by your insurer. Call admissions and we will verify your benefits with you.

What therapies are part of treatment?
We offer trauma-informed care tailored to your needs, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for managing thoughts, behaviors, and emotional challenges; group therapy and peer support to build trust and accountability; family therapy to help loved ones understand and support your recovery; life skills training to prepare you for life after treatment; and trauma therapy and motivational interviewing to support deeper healing.
How long does treatment last?
Length of stay is determined by medical necessity — it varies based on clinical needs and insurance. Your recovery won't be rushed; admissions will work with you to determine the right timeline based on your goals and situation.
What kinds of addiction and mental health conditions do you treat?
Painted Grove Recovery treats a wide range of substance use challenges, including alcohol, opioids (such as heroin, fentanyl, and prescription pain medications), methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepines, marijuana, and prescription stimulants. While Painted Grove Recovery is a substance use disorder treatment center, we support clients who experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or trauma within our structured residential program. Where medication for a mental health condition is part of your care, prescribing is handled by an outside prescriber we coordinate with — Painted Grove Recovery does not provide psychiatric services on site.
Can I speak to someone before I decide?
Absolutely. Admissions is available 24/7 to answer your questions, discuss your options, and help you decide what's right for you — whether you're calling for yourself or on behalf of someone you care about. Need a ride? Need help verifying Medicaid? Just want to talk it through? We're here for it.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. Patients must be 18 or older.
What happens after treatment?
Discharge planning starts at admission. A member of your care team offers to meet with you every week to plan what comes next. Before you leave, the team identifies your next level of care, makes referrals and schedules follow-up appointments when possible. They also work to keep your medications going so care isn't interrupted. Before you leave, you receive a written discharge plan.
